  1. think oil……oil pump, oil pan, oil lines, oil……….it keeps friction and heat down from moving internal parts of the engine.

  2. Oil is drawn from the oil pan by the oil pump through the oil filter into the oil gallery’s. It is now forced through the crank shaft and through small ports, directly onto the bearings. Same with the cam shaft. A small portion of the oil is carried through the connecting rods and sprayed to the underside of the pistons (to lubricate the cylinder walls and piston pin) In some engines (actually a lot of them) oil is forced through the hydraulic lifters from the oil gallery or from ports on the camshaft. All oil drains back to the pan from gravity through large drain ports in the head and block.
    Oil’s three main functions are cleans, cools, and lubricates.
