Safe Sex For Lesbians? ?
A question from a reader: In my sex-ed class at school, they spoke extensively about safe sex–for hets. What are some safe sex techniques for lesbians, what diseases are we more at risk for, and how could I find more info on this?
Okay, let me elaborate. I didn’t mean to sound like lesbians are somehow not capable of contracting certain diseases. It’s just that our teacher told us hetero women are more likely to develop cervical cancer (not that this is an STD)–she didn’t mention lesbians, and it made me wonder if we were at an ELEVATED RISK for certain things.

Safety gloves, helmets and knee pads. Sorry but can’t help.
Lesbians are far less likely to transmit a sexually transmitted disease. The penetration done is usually by hand or with a dildo or tongue and if they both don’t have sex with a male partners. So their isn’t the volume of fluids being exchanged.Sure they can contract a std from someone but their chances are far lower
Dental dams/female condoms…..many, many STD’s can be orally transmitted so these are a must if you are not VERY familiar with your sex partner. Latex gloves. Toys made of acrylic, metal, glass or silicone (which all have special cleaners) rather than more porous materials like jelly…and clean them regularly, use a condom even. Just try searching the for safe sex practices for lesbians on the net or go to your local book store and pick up “The joy of lesbian sex” or one of the other lesbian sex guides you will find there….they can be quite helpful : )
i think you can get all the same diseases. just make sure you wash your hands and whatever tools you use.
try google, theres a lot of information there.
Well for oral, there’s dental dams.
For penetration, there’s plastic/rubber/latex gloves.
The risk for getting a disease through your fingers is less than it is for oral. Just make sure you and your partner get tested before getting intimate with each other, and take a look at each other’s results.
Just because you’re lesbian doesn’t mean you can’t catch one single disease. There’s the risk of catching anything. Just be smart, and like the first guy said–get a helmet!
What’s with the latex gloves? How can you get an STD through your fingers?
Genital excretions are gential excretions; whether you are having heterosexual/homosexual sex it does not matter. You can always go to the CDCs website and look up STDs so that you can look into how they are transmitted- that way you can see how male/male, female/female or heterosexual sex are at risk for which STD.
